Naneghat is a mountain pass in the Western Ghats range near Junnar in Pune district of Maharashtra, India. During the reign of the Satavahana (200 BCE–190 CE), the pass was extensively used as a trade route between Kalyan and Junnar. Literally, the name nane means "coin" and ghat means "pass". The name is given because this path was used as a tollbooth to collect toll from traders crossing the hills.
The inscriptions in the caves indicate that they are the work of Satavahana rulers who came into prominence after the fall of the Mauryan empire. It is believed that a powerful woman ruler Naganika, the wife of Satakarni (180–170 BCE) of the Satavahana family commissioned the cave, the statues and the inscriptions. Inscriptions in the cave mention her and her family members. Though the statues adorning the sides of the rectangular cave are now gone, the inscriptions still record some of the achievements of the dynasty. The Naneghat records have proved very important in establishing the history of the region. Vedic Gods like Yama (Hinduism) Indra, Chandra and Surya are mentioned here. The mention of Samkarsana and Vasudeva indicate the prevalence of Bhagavata form of Hinduism in the Satavahana dynasty.
Located at an altitude of 750 m (2,461 ft), the non-motorable pass still serves as a shortcut between the Konkan region and the Deccan by inhabitants of the area. A number of ancient man-made caves have been crafted in the vicinity of the pass. The nearest inhabited area on the Konkan side is Vaishakhare 14 km (9 mi), and the village of Ghatghar 6 km (4 mi) on the plateau side.

we were supposed to gather at Kalyan Station at 7.00 pm , but as i was the person who was unaware of the timings i was late by 30 mins . i reached there by 7.30 and then we headed to saralgaon (Vaishakrae ) and then to Naneghat
it was mid of Monsoon season and the Varun Raj had shown his presence we all were crossing the green meadows of grasses and enjoying every bit of it
when we reached to the base ... the pinnacle was seen as if it is poking us to come and explore me
as it was my first experience i was not sure how long it will take to climb and reach to the pinnacle we had breakfast ( it is ritual that Pranali carries the sandwiches and believe me they are really yummy )
we started at 9.30 am to ascend the Naneghat pinnacle .... i can assure u guys Yatin is an excellent info teller .. he was explaining every bit of the trekk and we were enjoying we have hardly walked about 30 mins within this time all clothes were wet , as the climate was damn humid and sun was shining bright, all were praying that rain shud come but all in vain ... yatin was capturing the pics in all the possible ways ( he will agree as well ) and then as we were about to reach the pinnacle , showers of rain made it auspicious all rain and fog everywhere, we got fresh and all tiredness was gone as if we have just started to climb
we reached to the pinnacle at 1.45 PM ( i remember the time as i was the clock on the trekk )
as we reached there it was all mist spread ed , at the top of the pinnacle there are caves carved and on the walls of this caves there is some writings written ( may be Devanagari or Persian )
we had our lunch and then captured some memories and then started descending to our main destination
we reached at 6.00 PM to the base and then headed towards Kalyan Station ( we were in pritam's Car ) and after dropping me all team departed to there own destination
It was an amazing experience which i had with all you guys
( how to go to Naneghat - reach Kalyan by Train and then take up a bus which goes to Saralgaon , get down at saralgaon and then catch up a private vehicle like jeep or an auto go to the base and ensure you guys have provision for the private vehicles for going back again as the area is lonely and transport is minimun ,, carry water and odomos as there are lots of mosquitoes on the way ) and on the top go in the monsoon as it is really amazing in those days
